Warriors No. 2 On National Academic List

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches came out with its annual list of Scholastic All-America Teams and Individuals and Winona State University was ranked No. 2 for the 2008 season.

There were 64 teams from all NCAA divisions that were ranked with a 2.8700 grade point average and higher and Winona State had the second highest cumulative GPA with a 3.7550. Division I Southeast Missouri State University had the top team GPA with a 3.8200.

Winona State also place 12 of its 22 team members on the Scholastic All-America list. The 12 ranked individuals equaled the same amount earned by Southern Utah, Alabama and Ithaca. Southeast Missouri State lead all teams by placing 16.

Of the 12 Warriors to earn All-America status, Melissa Baudhuin (Fr), Oshkosh, WI, Alexandra Nugent (Jr), Sheboygan, WI, Renae Lee (Jr), St. Cloud, MN, and Jory Waldron (So), Edgar, WI, all posted 4.00 GPAs on an average of 4.00.

Also named for WSU was Jessica Ganrude (So), St. Charles, MN, Katie Gregory (Fr), Manhattan, KS, Krystin Holody (So), Rockwood, Ontario, Canada, Kourtney Johnston (Fr), Wadena, MN, Heather Rumelein (Fr), Centennial, CO, Eileen Strube (Jr), Lemont, IL, Megan Vitko (Fr), Farmdale, OH, and Melissa Vodvarka (Jr), Oak Creek, WI.

It marked the third straight year that Nugent, Strube and Vodvarka earned national All-America honors, while it was the second consecutive year Ganrude and Holody reached the level of excellence. For Waldron and Lee it was a return to the All-America list they were on from the 2006 season.
