WSU Beats UW-La Crosse In Exhibition Opener

WINONA, MN -- Winona State University held the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse scoreless for over five minutes and went on a 15-0 run in the first half in heading to an 89-52 win in exhibition play held at McCown Gymnasium.
The Warriors had doubled up the Eagles 28-14 in the first 7:43 of the opening half and then turned up the defensive screws some more to keep the Eagles without additional points until 2:29 was left in the half. By then WSU had run off 15 unanswered points and eventually went on to a 48-20 halftime lead.
UWL did outscore WSU 7-0 to start the second half but the Warriors pushed the lead to 40 points at 87-47 with 3:11 remaining in the game.
The Warriors had four players finish in double figures with Josh Korth coming off the bench to lead the way with 16. Starters John Smith and Quincy Henderson each scored 11 points and Jonte Flowers tallied 10. All 11 WSU players to get into the game scored at least two points and only one failed to get a rebound.
WSU held a 41-32 edge on the boards with Smith pulling down a team-high eight boards.
Brandon Brown paced the Eagles with 14 points and Tony Mane and Chris Fehrenbach each netted 13. Fehrenbach added a team-high seven rebounds for UWL.
