Warriors Roll In Home Opener

Bryce Welch WINONA, MN -- Winona State University rode the shooting of David Johnson and Bryce Welch in rolling to an 119-57 win over Bethany Lutheran College in WSU's home opener at McCown Gymnasium.

Johnson paced four double-figure scorers for the Warriors with a game-high 31 points, while Welch followed with 22 points. Josh Korth added to the scoring output with 20 points and John Smith netted 14.

The No. 1-ranked Warriors tore it up from the three-point field goal range by hitting 18 of 31 attempts, which included a seven-of-nine effort from Johnson and a perfect four-for-four from Welch.

Smith led the Warriors with seven rebounds, two assists, six blocked shots and one steal and helped WSU hold the Vikings to just 27 rebounds and only 21 field goals in 58 attempts (36.2 percent).

WSU led 59-28 at the halftime break and then outscored BLC 59-28 in the final 20 minutes of pay.
