WSU Adds UW-Stout To Victory Column

Quincy Henderson WINONA, MN --A 27-9 run midway through the first half propelled No.1-ranked Winona State University to a 95-68 nonconference victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout in McCown Gymnasium.

Win kept the Warriors perfect at 6-0 and extended their regular-season winning streak to 43 games and home winning streak at 36.

The Warriors trailed 16-12 with 14:28 left in the first half before the run that gave them a 14-point, 39-25, lead with 5:25 left in he opening period. WSU then went on to lead at halftime 45-27 as UW-Stout failed to score in the final 4:56 of the half.

In the second half the Warriors ran the lead up to 24 points, 56-32, at 15:53 and then built their biggest lead of the night at 29 points, 79-50, with 7:50 remaining. The Blue Devils did cut into the deficit to trail by 21, 87-66, with 2:10 left on the clock, but WSU outscored UWS 8-2 to finish out the contest.

John Smith lead a quartet of double-figure scorers for he Warriors with 19 points. David Johnson followed with 18, Jonte Flowers contributed 14 and Josh Korth came off he bench to score 11.

Both teams had 58 shots in the game, but WSU made 31 of its attempts, while the Blue Devils netted 22. WSU also forced UWS into 26 turnovers.
