Winona State University head men's basketball coach Mike Leaf has
announced that Brandon Stromer has signed a letter of intent to play
basketball at WSU for the 2002-2003 season. Stromer is a 6-foot,
eight-inch, 250-pound post player from Garner, Iowa, who played his prep
career at Garner-Hayfield High School.
During the past three years Stromer has been part of a team
that has gone 65-8 and this year was 26-1, losing only in the 2A State championship game.
"Brandon comes from a tremendous program," coach Leaf first pointed out. "He is very
strong, has a great touch and he runs the floor very well." While at
Garner-Hayfield Stromer was an All-State selection, a Wendy's Heisman
nominee and a 2001-02 McDonald's All-American candidate. He was also
picked to the Iowa Newspaper Association team three time, named to the
Des Moines Register team twice and selected to an All-District team
twice. Added to his list of accomplishment was pick to the All-North
Iowa Conference team three times.
Besides playing basketball at
Garner-Hayfield, Stromer participated in football and track, was named
to the National Honor Society and was a "DARE" Role Model. "Brandon is
a wonderful young man with so much potential," added Leaf. "He will be
an awesome fit to our program. I look forward to having him in a Warrior
uniform." Stromer was the fifth player Leaf has signed to play for
Winona State University next year.
