WSU Wins Fifth Straight NSIC Title

Brady Strangstalien BECKER, MN -- Winona State University completed a two-day run with an one-under par and captured its fifth straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship in play held at the Pebble Creek Golf Course.

The Warriors finished up the, two-day, 36-holes, event with a total of 575. That effort was started with an impressive team total of 285 on the first day. The Warriors then flowed up with a 290 to win the title by 31 strokes.

The Winona State win continued the dominance of Warrior golf in league-championship play. In the past 18 years WSU has won 11 championships, placed second six times and third once.

WSU, sophomore, Brady Strangstalien successfully defended his conference title by coming in with a four-under-par 140. Strangstalien began the tournament with a four-under 68 and posted an even-par 72 on the second day.

The Warriors swept the top four individual spots in the medalist standings and placed their fifth player in a tie for 13. John Anderson followed in second place with a, two-day, even-par, total of 144 (69-75). Kevin Loeffler was third with a three-over 147 (74-73) and Jeff Porter was fourth at one stroke further behind (78-70-148). Ross Wilhelm rounded out the Warrior play with rounds of 74 and 79 for a 153 (nine over).
