RENSSELAR, IN -- Winona State University just could not make the most of its
opportunities as the Warriors lost a hard-fought 1-0 soccer decision to the University of
Indianapolis in the opening round of the Puma Classic September 5.
Indianapolis scored the only goal of the game at the 5:20 mark of the first period when
Dawn Ingalls sneaked in a shot past WSU goalie Crystal Pearson. It was the only shot in
the 12 Indianapolis put on goal that Pearson or the Warrior defense did not control.
Pearson finished the match with six saves.
WSU put 14 shots on the Indianapolis goal, but Melissa Biga turned the tide on seven
occasions. Junior Betsy Morgan put four shots on goal to lead the WSU offensive attack.
It was the season opener for both teams.
