Freshman Jessica Brancale scored single goals in each half of play to spark the Winona
State University soccer team to a 2-0 nonconference win over St. Cloud State University
October 1 at Maxwell Field.
The goals were the 11th and 12th of the season for Brancale and gave her the team
scoring lead for the season with 26 points.
The first goal for the Warriors and Brancale came at 20:34 of the first half when
Brancale chipped in a shot in front of the goal that went over the head of Huskie goal
keeper Angela DeHart.
The second goal was very similar, as Brancale looked like she was on the golf course
chipping to the green. This time Brancale's shot came from the right-hand side and just
got past DeHart and nestled in the left corner. The goal came at 74:13 and improved the
Warriors' record to 8-3. St. Cloud fell to 2-6-1.
It was the second win in a row for the Warriors and freshman Crystal Pearson recorded
her sixth shutout of the season. The Huskies managed only eight shots on goal and Pearson
was forced to stop six of those shots.
