MOORHEAD, MN -- Sandra Davel scored in the first half and that was all Winona State
University needed in a 2-0 win over Moorhead State University in Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference play October 10. The win locked up at least a share of the NSIC
title for the Warriors, who are 5-0 in league play with one match to play. The win also
improves WSU to 9-4 for the season.
Winona added some insurance in the second half on junior Christine Nettenstrom's goal.
Davel's goal was the third of the season for the freshman, who now has seven points on
the year. Nettenstrom's goal was her second of the year and gives her four points for the
season.
The shutout was the seventh of the year for the Warriors and equals the single-season
school record for shutouts. Freshman Crystal Pearson, who made seven saves, also equaled
the single-season goal keeper Warrior record for most shutouts.
The win was the first ever over the Dragons by the Warriors. The two teams had meet six
previous times before the latest encounter and Moorhead had won every match.
