Warriors blank Northern State in conference opener

ABERDEEN, SD -- The Winona State University soccer team opened Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with a
6-0 win over Northern State University September 12. The Warriors scored four times in the first half and rolled to their
second consecutive shutout in running their season record to 2-2.

Northern State (2-1) actually started the scoring for the Warriors when the Wolves put the ball into the net for an "own goal"
on a blocked shot attempt, five minutes into the match.

Freshman Jessica Brancale continued to have a hot hand for the Warriors, she scored the Warriors' first goal at the 19-minute
mark on an assist from Andrea Zilka. Brancale would later scored on an assisted goal from Jill Menzies in the second half. It
was the fourth and fifth goals Brancale had scored in the past two Warrior matches.

All-time Warrior leading scorer Betsy Morgan added to her career totals when she put the ball in the net at the 23-minute and
65-minute marks. One of those goals came on an assist from Danielle Krieg. Morgan rounded out her scoring when she
assisted Zilka on her goal, which came 25 minutes into the match.

Freshman Crystal Pearson recorded her second consecutive shutout, but got a lot of help from her defenders, as she had to
stop three shots.
