Junior Kristy Sheahan scored the first two goals of the match to lead Winona State
University to a 4-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win over Southwest State
University September 20 at Maxwell Field.
Sheahan scored 20 minutes and 30 seconds into the first half on an assist from freshman
Elizabeth Leibsle and the added an unassisted goal ten minutes and 15 seconds later. It
was the ninth and tenth career goals Sheahan has scored for the Warriors and led to a 2-0
halftime lead for WSU.
Freshman Sandra Davel netted her first collegiate goal on assist from junior Jenny
Winders to put the Warriors up 3-0 23 minutes and 30 seconds into the second half and then
freshman Jessica Brancale, the Warriors' leading scorer this season, bounced a shot off
the goal post at the 79-minute mark for the final WSU score.
The Warriors lost their shutout when Heidi Savre' shot just got inside the far goal
post against Warrior goal keeper Crystal Pearson. It was only the second goal
Pearson and the WSU defense had allowed in the last six matches. WSU finished the game
with 28 shots on goal and allowed Southwest only two shots -- WSU has given up only ten
shots in its last three games.
The win left the Warriors with a 3-0 NSIC mark and runs their winning streak to six
matches. It was also the fifth win in five matches the Warriors have played against the
Mustangs.
