WSU Records Another Split

Katie Maultra SAINT LEO, FL -- Winona State University was given three unearned run in the sixth inning of the nightcap and went on to score an 8-6 victory and split a doubleheader with Saint Leo University.

The Warriors and Lions had battled for ten innings in the first game before St. Leo came up with a 3-2 victory. But in that nightcap, WSU took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the second inning and then capitalized on those three unearned runs in the sixth a 6-5 lead. WSU added two more runs in the seventh and held on after SLU scored a run in its share of the final inning.

Katie Maultra, who gave the Warriors their early lead with a three-run home, drove in one of those runs in the sixth and added another RBI in the seventh to finish with five runs batted.

Maultra along with Jenny Wilhelm, Karyn Koehnle and Callie Givens all had two hits apiece, while Megan Paulson led the Warriors with three hits.

Stacey Struzynski pitched four and two-thirds innings for the WSU win and Chelsey Ewing wrapped up the contest for a save.

An unearned run in the last of the tenth helped St. Leo tie the game before coming up with the game-winner.

WSU tied the game at one-all when Chelsea Rosenow was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third.

Wilhelm had two hits to lead the Warriors.

Kristen Fossell hooked up in the mound tussle and pitched nine innings to suffered the loss.
