Warriors Continue To Split

Story by: Winona State Sports Inforamation Office

Amanda Wilhelm OCOEE, FL -- For the third day in a row Winona Sate University came up with a split, this timing coming up with a 3-2 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader with No. 13-ranked Grand Valley State University, MI.

In the opener the Warriors dropped a 10-6 decision.

In the WSU winner, the Warriors came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game with two runs in the fourth and scored the winner on a two-out base hit by Amanda Wilhelm that scored Karyn Koehnle. Katie Maultra had come up with a two-out, two-run single to tie the game in the fourth for WSU.

Stacey Struzynski tossed the complete game and struck out six while walking one.

A six-run third inning for Grand Valley pretty much settled the outcome in the opener. Both teams scored in the first inning with WSU coming out on top 3-2, but then the Lakers broke loose for the six-run outburst.

For the game Chelsea Rosenow, Jenny Wilmes, Laura Wright and Callie Givens all had two hits apiece and Wilmes drove in two runs.

Chelsey Ewing pitched two and two-third innings for the Warriors and got touched up for eight runs, but only five were earned.
