WSU Closes Southern Swing With Split

Story by: Winona State Sports Information Office

Mollie Bjelland OCOEE, FL -- For the fourth time in five outings Winona State University came up with a doubleheader split, losing 1-0 in the opener with Assumption College, MA and winning the nightcap by a 9-2 count.

The split left the Warriors with a 6-4 record in their ten-game southern swing.

In notching their win the Warriors did all of their damage in the fourth through seventh innings with most of the damage coming in the fourth-run fourth.

Mollie Bjelland keyed that inning by leading off with a home run. Bjelland went on to collect another hit and scored twice more in the game.

Terra Halron, Chelsea Rosenow, Katie Maultra and Annie Stuedemann all had two hits apiece with Halron and Amanda Wilhelm driving in two runs apiece.

Chelsey Ewing pitched the first six innings and struck out four in notching her third win against one loss in four decisions down south.

In the opener, Halron and Rosenow got the only hits for the Warriors as Kristen Fossell suffered the hard-luck pitching loss despite giving up only four hits and striking out seven.
