WSU Beats No. 23 Emporia State, KS; Gains Split

Callie Givens EMPORIA, KS -- Winona State University came up with a 5-2 win over No. 23 Emporia State University, KS to notch a split of a pair of games in the weather-plagued Emporia State University Tournament.

The Warriors opened up their play with a 2-1 loss to Truman State University, MO.

In the win over Emporia State, Chelsey Ewing came up with a complete-game, three-hitter. Ewing allowed only three walks and struckout five in notching her fourth win against one loss for the season.

WSU broke open the game with a three-run fourth inning that featured a three-run home run by Callie Givens which was her first collegiate round tripper of her career. Laura Wright opend up the frame with a single and after a sacrifice bunt Megan Paulson was walked before Givens struck for the four-bagger.

The Warriors did play a little longball, as Tara Halron led off the seventh with her first homer of the season.

In the first game, Truman State scored twice in the last of the first and made it hold up.

In this game it was the longball that did the scoring for the Warriors, as Jenny Wilmes led off the sixth with her first home run of the season.

Kristen Fossell took the tough-luck loss. Going the distance and allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. Fossell finished with three strikeouts.
