Stang Adds Another No-Hit Gem
Story by: Winona State Sports Information Office
WAYNE, NE -- For the second day in a row Winona State University got a no-hit pitching effort, this from Courtney Strang as the Warriors completed the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Crossover with a perfect record.
Strang tossed the no-hitter in the Warriors' second game of the day, a 9-0, five-inning, contest against the Univeristy of Minnesota, Crookston. That game had followed the Warriors' 9-1, five-inning win over the University of Mary. Strang's effort came a day after Stacy Struzynski hurled a no-hitter for Winona State against Northern State University.
The wins kept the Warriors perfect in their first seven NSIC games and extends their winning streak to nine games.
Strang did not walk a batter but a couple of WSU errors prevented the perfect game, as Strang went on to strike out 13.
There was also no doubt that Strang was not going to get any offensive support, as the Warriors started their bottom half of the first inning with Chelsea Rosenow, Mollie Bjelland and Amanda Wilhelm all hitting home runs. Bjelland finished the game with three hits, two runs scored and four runs batted in, while Wilhelm had two hits, three runs batted in and a run scored.
In the first game of the day Kristen Fossell was just effective, giving up only five hits, including a solo home run. Fossell walked two and struck out five.
Offensively the Warriors put the game out of reach with four runs in each of the second and third innings. Callie Givens had a three-run home run in the second and two batters later Bjelland connected on a solo round tripper.
