Story by: Winona State Sorts Information Office

Mollie Bjelland WINONA, MN -- Winona State University Head Coach Greg Jones captured his 300th collegiate victory as the Warriors swept a Northen Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader from Upper Iowa University on Maxwell Field at Alltel Stadium.

Jones came into his eighth season with a 277-115-4 record (all at Winona State) and a .705 winning percentage. With the two wins, Jones is now 301-124-4 in 429 career games with a .706 winning percentage.

The Wariors got a complete game shutout from Kristen Fossell in a 3-0 win of the opener and then in the second game, Stacey Struzynski gave up just one hit in five innings of a 9-1 win.

Fossell got all the help she would need in the first inning as WSU scored an unearned run on the first of three doubles by Mollie Bjelland. Bjelland also drove in WSU's second run and scored the Warriors' third run.

Fossell scattered five hits, walked two and struck out 11.

In the second game, UIU scored the first run in the first inning, but WSU came up with two in the first and followed that up with three in the second to pretty well ice the game. The contest was then finished up in the fifth when the Warriors scored four runs, two coming on back-to-back solo home runs by Bjelland and Laura Wright.

The only hit Struzynski gave up came with two outs in the first. Struzynski would go on to retire the last nine batters she faced and finished the game with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Terra Halron added three hits to the win and Amanda Wilhelm came up with two hits and two runs batted in.
