Warriors Drop League Pair

Annie Studemann MARSHALL, MN -- Winona State University ran into some tough luck, dropping a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games to Southwest State Minnesota State University in the last inning.

The Warriors gave up a lead off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lose 1-0 in the first game and then gave up two runs in the last of the seventh in the nightcap to lose 5-4.

Kristen Fossell had given up just two hits in the first game for she allowed the winning home run in the seventh. For the game Fossell tossed a three-hitter, did not allow a walk and struck out eight.

WSU had put runners on second and third with one out in the first inning and failed to score and then had a runner on second with no outs in the third and failed to score again.

Terra Halron collected both of the Warriors' hits.

In the second game, WSU outhit SMSU 12-4, but a two-out, two-run double in the last of the sixth drove in the winning runs for the Mustangs.

WSU built a 4-0 lead with two runs in the first and two more runs in the second. Laura Wright drove in a run in the first, Annie Studemann blasted a leadoff home run in the second and Amanda Wilhelm came up with a run-scoring double in the second.

SMSU came back with three runs in the third to cut WSU's lead to 4-3.
