Strang Tosses 2nd Straight No-Hitter

BISMARCK, ND -- Freshman Courtney Strang tossed her second straight no-hitter against the University of Minnesota, Crookston and Winona State University won two of three games played in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Crossover Tournament.
The Warriors lost their first game of the day 1-0 in nine innings against the University of Mary. WSU then followed up with a 4-1 decision over Minnesota State University Moorhead before closing off the day with a 9-0, five-inning, win on Strang's no-hitter.
Strang also picked up a five-inning, 9-0, no-hitter against UMC in the first NSIC Crossover Tournament and now has not allowed a hit in 11 consecutive innings. For the season Strang has allowed five hits in just 20 innings of work.
Strang got all the runs she would need when Mollie Bjelland scored in the first. WSU then iced the contest with four runs in the third, three in the fourth and a single run in the fifth. Bjelland and Jenny Wilmes each had two runs for the Warriors.
Winona State gave up a two-out run in the last of the ninth against U of Mary. Bjelland put the Warriors up 1-0 with a run-scoring double in the first inning, but UM came back to tie the game in the last of the sixth.
Against MSUM Amanda Wilhelm, Annie Stuedemann and Laura Wright all drove in runs.
Kristen Fossell tossed a three-hit complete game for the Warriors and finished with 12 strikeouts in the win.
