Warriors Fall In Region Title Game

NCAA Logo EMPORIA, KS -- Emporia State University, KS came up with a pair of big home runs and defeated Winona State University 9-1 in five innings of the NCAA Division II North Central Region Championship game.

The No. 6 Seed WSU Warriors (38-15) had taken an early lead when, freshman, Mollie Bjelland homered to centerfield to lead off the top of the second inning. But the No. 1 Seed and No. 6 nationally-ranked ESU Hornets (44-15) came back to tie the game with a run in the last of the second and then broke open the contest with four runs in the third and another four in the fourth. Most of those runs came with the long ball, as ESU hit a two-run home run in the third and a grand slam home runs in the fourth.

The loss ended the season for the Warriors, while Emporia State advanced to the Division II final eight tournament in Houston, TX.
