Warriors Dominate Hammer Throw

Emily King MOORHEAD, MN -- Winona State University captured five of the top six spots in the hammer throw competition during the first day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Warriors 4 x 800-meter relay team placed fifth and in the process set a WSU record. Michelle Schreiner, Kathryn McElroy, Allie Glasbrenner and Theresa Pawelko set the record with a time of 9:44.2.

The hammer throw effort helped the Warriors total 37 points and left them standing third out of seven teams.

Senior, All-American, Emily King paced the WSU effort in the hammer throw by winning the event with a throw of 174-1. Nicole Lonning was second with a 168-1 throw and Kaycee Moore was third at 155-feet, 5-inches.

Marissa Girolamo added to the WSU domination by coming in fifth (152-4) and Liz Bauman was sixth (149-7).

The only other top-three finish for the Warriors in the championships' first day was a third by, senior, All-American, Bria Magnuson with a height of 11-9 3/4 in the pole vault.
