Turgeon Named Assistant Region Coach Of The Year

Mike Turgeon WINONA, MN -- Winona State University’s assistant track and field coach Mike Turgeon has been named North Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Turgeon, the track and field assistant coach for throws, helped guide a number of WSU athletes to very successful seasons. In the indoor season WSU earned All-American status in the 20-pound weight throw along with a NCAA Division II national championship. In the outdoor season All-American status was attained in the hammer throw along with a fourth-place and 13th-place finish in the national championships.

Throwing successes for the Warriors in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference indoor and outdoor championships were very apparent. In the indoor championships, WSU finished second, fifth and eighth in the shot put and fourth, fifth and sixth in the 20-pound weight throw. In the outdoor championships, the Warriors claimed the first, second, third, fifth and sixth places in the hammer throw, second, third and eighth places in the shot put, fourth, fifth and eighth in the discus and seventh and tenth places in the javelin.
