Warriors Break 4 x 400 Record

LA CROSSE, WI -- The Winona State University 4 x 400 relay team broke a Warrior record in taking first place during a dual meet with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The Warriors lost the meet 79-57, but the WSU relay quartet of Lisa Meyer, Nicci Johnson, Kelly Milkent and Jennifer Bradford won the event by breaking the four-minute barrier with a record clocking of 3:59.34.

That was one of seven total first-place finishes by the Warriors. Two of the events, the 1,000-meter and 3,000-meter runs, ended in a top-three sweep by WSU.

Jenna Southworth won the 1,000-meter event in a time of 3:16.94, while Allie Glasbrenner was second (3:17.30) and Kelsey Stensland was third (3:22.00).

In the 3,000-meter race, Bethany Easker won in 11:15.56, Madie Heinrich was second (11:22.32) and Kelly Rieber was third in 11:59.38.

Other wins for the Warriors came from Jess Devine (55-meter hurdles, :08.43), Kale Johnson (High jump, 4-11 3/4), Alyssa Lammers (triple jump, 16-4 1/4) and Chelsey Brown (Weight throw, 49-9 3/4).

In the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles event, Devine set a WSU record and reached a NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying time of :08.26 second.

Taking second for WSU was Nikki Olson (200-meter dash, :26.47), Brittany Semrau (400-meter dash, 1:02.79), Emily Asuncion (Triple jump, 34-6 3/4) and Rebecca Stier (Shot put, 43-9 3/4).

Rounding out the top-three finishers was Asuncion (55-meter hurdles, :0.69) and Brown (Shot put, 43-1 1/).
