WSU Finishes Flyer Festival At 3-1

Nemeck-Clausen ROMEOVILLE, IL -- Winona State University needed to rally to defeat St. Joseph's College, IN  and then topped the University Southern Indiana University in second-day action at the Flyer Festival.

WSU trailed two-games-to-one going into the fourth game with SJC before bouncing back to tie the match with a 30-24 victory and then capturing the victory with a 15-6 win in Game Five. In the win over Southern Indiana, the Warriors opened with 31-29 and 30-21 wins before dropping a 30-20 decision and then wrapping up the match with a 30-26 win.

The sweep of the two games left the Warrior with a 3-1 record in tournament play. 

Freshman Susan Clausen came up with 61 assists and 15 digs, while Rudi Balich led the defense with 30 digs against St. Joseph's. Carmen Stankowski had a team-high 23 kills, Kim Nemcek, who had four kills in the fifth game, and Mollie Bjelland, who added two kills in the deciding game, each came up with 14 kills and Kiersten Arendt tallied 13 kills. Stankowski and Crystal Otte each added 11 digs, wile Arendt and Kerry Daly recorded four total blocks each.

Stankowski again had a double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs against USI. Nemcek added 15 kills and 19 digs, while Clausen finished with 51 assists and 19 digs. The Warriors also got 14 kills from Arendt and 13 from Daly, while Balich came up with 26 digs and Lauren Brown added 11 more digs for the Warriors.
