WSU Needs Five Games For Win

Kerry Daly WINONA, MN -- Winona State University needed five games in order to hand St. Cloud State University a 3-2 nonconference loss in McCown Gymnasium.

The Warriors opened with 30-26, 30-25 wins but could not find the edge in losing the next two game by the same scores of 31-29. Then in the fifth game, Kerry Daly led the charge with three kills for a 15-8 WSU victory.

WSU now has won 11 of its last 12 matches.

In that fifth game, Rudi Balich and Kim Nemcek each came up with two kills, while Carmen Stankowski, Kiersten Arendt and Mollie Bjelland each has service aces. Arendt also had a kill in the final game, as did Lisa Dobie.

For the match, Stankowski led the Warriors with 25 kills and added 17 digs. Nemcek and Arendt each posted 11 kills and Balich finished with 16 kills.

Dobie came up with 70 assists and added 15 digs, while Crystal Otte had a team-high 22 digs. Rounding out the defense for WSU as Balich with 20 digs and Bjelland with 11 digs.
