Warriors Battle To Overtime Win

Amanda Reimer LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL -- Winona State University scored the first seven points in overtime play and posted a 71-57 win over Limestone College, SC in WSU's third and final game at the Disney Tip-Off.

The Warriors got seven points from Natalie Gigler and six points from Jenny Steffen in the extra five minutes to earn the 299th coaching victory for WSU's head coach Scott Ballard.

Free throws proved to be the key factor for the Warriors, who netted 25 charity shots in 27 attempts. Three of those free throws came late in regulation play when Molly Anderson converted a pair and Amanda Reimer netted one to tie the game at 54-all and sent the contest into overtime.

Reimer finished the game with a team-high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds three assists, one blocked shot and two steals. Steffen added 13 points and Anderson tallied ten.

WSU got off to an 11-4 lead only to see Limestone take a 12-11 lead with an 8-0 run. A 7-1 run by Limestone put the Warriors down by seven points, 27-20, with 5:10 left in the opening half. WSU finally turned things around and scored five unanswered points to trail 27-25 by halftime.

WSU continued its streak to start the second half by outscoring Limestone 26-19 for a 51-46 lead with 5:29 to play, but fell behind by three, 54-51, with 4:05 to play.

The Warriors held Limestone scoreless during the first 3:22 of the overtime before closing out the game with a 17-3 scoring difference in overtime.
