WSU Heads To Christmas Break With Waldorf Win

WINONA, MN -- Winona State University hit a quartet of three-point field goals in a 20-4 run in the first half and went on to defeat Waldorf College 72-48 in nonconference play at McCown Gymnasium.
WSU trailed 15-12 at the 9:51 mark of the first half, but turned things around when Kelsey Homewood and Jenny Steffen each hit single three-pointers and Nikki Fleck came up with a pair, as WSU went on a 20-4 run over 6:11 of the half for a 32-19 lead with 3:40 left in the opening period.
WSU went on to a 34-25 halftime lead. Waldorf did cut that margin to seven at 36-29 with 17:29 left to play, but WSU outscored its opponents 36-19 during the rest of the run.
Steffen led WSU with 17 points and Fleck netted 11, while Amanda Reimer came up with a team-high nine rebounds in WSU's 42-30 control of the boards. Winona State did force Waldorf into 21 turnovers.
