Pierce Falls In ITA Semifinal Match

KEARNEY, NE -- Winona State University's Heather Pierce saw her quest for a national championship berth in singles play come to an end when she lost in semifinal play of the ITA Regional.

Pierce lost to Marina Bugaenco of Minnesota State University, Mankato in three sets. Pierce won the first set 7-6, but lost the second set 6-1 and the final set by a 10-3 count.

Pierce and Mary Hesterman did reach the finals of their No. 1 Doubles bracket before beating Miriam Evanglista and April Hirad of Metropolitan State College of Denver 8-6.

WSU's Courtney Zinter also lost in the consolation finals, dropping an 8-2 decision to No. 5 Morgan Forsyth of the University of Colorado-Pueblo.
