As a nonresident alien student, you must meet with the Student Payroll Manager as soon as you have found a job on campus. After a supervisor has hired you and you have completed a blue, student help authorization form, you will need to set up a meeting with Kathy Mahlke in Student Payroll. You must meet with her before you begin working. When you come to the meeting, you must bring with you the following items: > Your social security card (or the receipt showing that you have applied for a card) > Your passport, Visa, and I-94 > Your I-20 > Your WSU student I.D. card It will take about 30 minutes to complete the additional forms that are required to place you on payroll. Once all of the forms are finished, you will be allowed to begin working.
Nonresident alien students are only allowed to work 20 hours per week during fall and spring semesters. This total must include hours worked at all the jobs you have on campus (including Chartwell’s). During semester breaks, you may work additional hours (contact the Student Payroll Manager for further information). During the summer, you may work 40 hours per week.
Chartwell’s is NOT a Winona State University department. It is a separate company that is located on our campus. You are allowed to work at Chartwell’s because it is located on campus. However, their payroll is not part of the student payroll system for Winona State . Therefore, if you get both a job for Chartwell’s AND a job somewhere else on campus, you will be completing two sets of paperwork and will get separate payments from each organization. You will also be taxed for each organization.
