2008:  The Celebration of the Book's Book Collection Essay Contest

 

SESQUICENTENNIAL ESSAY CONTEST

Tell the story of WSU in the past, present, or future!

 

As part of WSU’s 150th birthday, the WSU Celebration of the Book, the WSU Sesquicentennial Committee and the WSU Bookstore, are inviting currently enrolled WSU students to enter an essay contest.  The essay should tell the story of a day in the life of a WSU student in the past, present or future.  The essay can be research-based or more creative. 

Length: 1,000 to 1,500 words.

Deadline: April 1, 2008

 

First prize: $125 cash and $150 WSU Bookstore gift card

Second prize: $75 cash and $100 WSU Bookstore gift card

 

Both winners will receive a signed copy of Her Star Shall Not Dim and the Winona State University Scrapbook: Celebrating 150 Years, as well as books by a selection of assorted Winona State authors.  They will also receive tickets to the Winona Symphony Orchestra. All entries will be considered for inclusion in the WSU Sesquicentennial time capsule, to be opened by students of the future.  The winning essays will be placed in the WSU Library Archives.For information about all Celebration of the Book events, visit: http://www.winona.edu/celebrationofthebook/  

 

 

 


 



The winners will be introduced at a special ceremony in the W.S.U Library Athenaeum on Wednesday, April 16 at 1:00 pm.  The Athenaeum will include a presenation by Jim Armstrong, Winona's Poet Laureate and Professor of English.  He will speak about the meaning of the book in his life.
