Chemistry at WSU
The Chemistry Department at Winona State University consists of ten full-time faculty members, one full-time laboratory support specialist, and a full-time department secretary. All major divisions of chemistry are represented: inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, biological and polymer; students may choose from any of these areas for their coursework or research, or may combine one or more areas for an interdisciplinary approach to the chemistry major. We are an inclusive, diverse department, fully accredited by the Amercian Chemical Society and our primary commitment is to quality undergraduate education in chemistry.
We are located in Pasteur Hall and Stark Hall at Winona State and we have excellent laboratory facilities and instrumentation dedicated to teaching and research. Our equipment includes modern instrumentation in IR, NMR, UV-VIS, AA, and DCP Emission Spectrometry, X-Ray Powder Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray Microanalysis, and others.
The Department is also home to the Southeast Minnesota Analytical Service, which provides services such as water testing and other analytical support to local governments, industry, and citizens.
Within the Chemistry Department at WSU, our focus is on a quality undergraduate education and on a high level of interaction between the faculty and students. Many of our graduates go on to successful careers in industry, while others choose to continue their education in a chemistry graduate school program.
