Attitudes of College Students Towards Relationships

Sara Zellner

Faculty Mentor: Carrie Fried

Previous research has not looked at how single people versus people that are in a relationship view relationships. Based on several different theories, it was hypothesized that the attitudes towards relationships would depend on if the person was single or in a relationship. Participants were asked to complete a free response section and a rating of statements on a questionnaire.  Results supported the hypothesis, that people in a relationship viewed relationships with a more positive attitude than people that are single. However, results were only marginally significant when the participants that were in a relationship rated the statements pertaining to relationships.
