Robotics Workshop for High School Students - July 15-18, 2008

Date: Sunday, March 02, 2008

Story by: WSU Office of University Communication

The Winona State University Department of Computer Science hosts the third annual Robotics Workshop July 15-18, from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., in Pasteur Hall.
The four-day program provides students an opportunity to learn and experiment with robotics programming using the RidgeSoft IntelliBrain Bot educational robot.

The workshop covers a variety of activities including programming the robot for motion; remote control and driving through a maze; infrared range sensors and avoiding obstacles; ultrasonic range sensors; detecting and following a line; robot grippers; synthesizing speech and sound.

During the evenings, students may return to the workshop lab to continue working on robotics projects or take part in other recreational activities on campus.

Students should have some prior programming experience and basic knowledge of a programming language such as Java, C++ or BASIC, either through a formal course or self study.

The fee for the workshop is $230, which includes tuition, lodging, meals, all instruction materials and recreation resources. A package for local area students is also available for $130, which includes tuition, all instruction materials and recreation resources.

The deadline for application is May 30 and enrollment is limited.

For more information on the program and registration materials, visit: http://cs.winona.edu/RoboticsWorkshop or call Gary Bunce at (507) 457-5377.
