The Project

The Common Book reading brings together a large community of readers in the discussion of a single work.†

In the initial years of the project, over 10,000 members of the WSU community joined in reading the common books:†
  • Fan Shen's, Gang of One
  • Kent Nerburn's, Neither Wolf Nor Dog
  • Ruth Ozeki's, My Year of Meats
  • Bob Morris's, The Blue Death
  • Kalia Yang's, The Latehomecomer
  • Heather Rogersí, Gone Tomorrow
  • Cheri Register; Packinghouse Daughter
  • Michael Kimmel, Guyland
  • Barry Estabrook, Tomatoland
-- with a like number attending the many public readings, lectures, discussions and other related events scheduled concurrently with each authorís visit to WSU.†

Each book has been adopted in numerous sections of English 111, College Reading and Writing, and may be adopted by any faculty interested in the issues it raises. A packet of teaching and contextual materials (PDF) is available to prospective adopters. † ††
