About The Common Book Project
The Common Book reading brings together a large community of readers in the discussion of a single work. In the initial years of the project, over 5,000 members of the WSU community joined in reading Fan Shen's Gang of One, Kent Nerburn's Neither Wolf Nor Dog, and Ruth Ozeki's My Year of Meats, with a like number attending the many public readings, lectures, discussions, and other related events scheduled concurrently with each author’s visit to WSU.
Each book has been adopted in numerous sections of English 111, College Reading and Writing, and may be adopted by any faculty interested in the issues it raises. A packet of teaching and contextual materials is available to prospective adopters.
