Residual Enhanced ACT Testing Procedures
The residual enhanced ACT for Winona State University is administered once annually. This is the only college entrance exam available on a residual basis.
To register for the exam students must:
-
Complete the registration form and return it to the Counseling Center (220 Wabasha Hall) at least one week in advance of the test day along with
-
Payment of the $29.00 fee.
-
Must be received before the test day (turn in with registration form).
-
No cash accepted. Check or money order made payable to Winona State University.
SPECIAL NOTE: Residual ACT testing is a service made available only to students who are enrolled, have been admitted, or are in the process of applying to Winona State University and who cannot participate in the National ACT test dates. Students are encouraged to take the test on one of the National ACT test dates. Students can register for the National ACT online at http://www.actstudent.org/regist/index.html.
The day of the test:
1. Bring a photo ID. Acceptable forms are current official IDs issued by the school, employer, or government agency (e.g. driver’s license, passport) as long as BOTH the student’s name and photograph appear. You will not be allowed to take the test without a photo ID.
2. Bring a calculator (optional). All problems on the Mathematics test can be solved without using a calculator; however, you may use one as long as it does not have functions described on the Prohibited List. To see the list, visit http://www.actstudent.org/faq/answers/calculator.html or call 1-800-498-6481 for a recorded message.
3. Be on time! No one will be admitted to the testing room after the scheduled start time. Expect to stay approximately four hours. Although the test itself is 3 hours, registration and breaks will make the total time longer.
a. English – 45 minutes
b. Mathematics – 60 minutes
c. Reading – 35 minutes
d. Science Reasoning – 35 minutes
Results will be forwarded to you and the WSU Admissions Office.
Note: No student reports, high school reports, or Additional Score Reports will be generated by ACT to report scores to any other college or scholarship agency.
Don’t know if you should retest? Here’s advice from the ACT FAQ website:
You should definitely consider retesting if:
-
You had any problems during the test, such as misunderstanding the directions or not feeling well.
-
You aren't satisfied that your scores accurately represent your abilities.
-
You see a discrepancy between your ACT scores and your high school grades.
-
You have completed coursework or an intensive review in subject areas included in the ACT since you were tested.
How will you do on a retest? ACT research shows that of the students who took the ACT more than once:
-
55 percent increased their composite score
-
23 percent decreased their composite score
-
22 percent did not change their composite score”
*Important note: If a student tested previously through the Residual ACT, the retest should be taken on a regularly scheduled National ACT test date. If this is not possible, a minimum of 60 days must elapse before another Residual test may be taken. If the 60-day time limit is violated, the retest scores will be cancelled automatically without refund.
