Admission Standards
A.
Master's Degree
- Bachelor's
degree GPA of 2.50 or better on a 4.0 scale.
- If
Bachelor's degree GPA is less than 2.50, then a score
of 900 on the verbal and quantitative portions of the
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required.
- A
written statement. If
you are a first-time applicant to either the M.S.
or Ed.S. degree with a concentration in Teacher Leadership,
K-12 Principalship, or Superintendency, you must submit
a two (2) to five (5) page typewritten statement explaining
your:
- vision of the purpose and role of education.
- qualifications,
and
- aptitude
for leadership. Apply leadership to your particular
area of program focus, such as K-12 building
leadership (teacher leadership or principal), K-12
district leadership (superintendent),
department leadership, and the like.
B.
Specialist Degree
- Graduate
GPA of 3.25 or better on a 4.00 scale.
- If
GPA is less than 3.25, then a 900 score on the verbal
and analytical portions of the Graduate Record Examination
(GRE) is required.
- A
written statement. If
you are a first-time applicant to either the M.S.
or Ed.S. degree with a concentration in Teacher
Leadership, K-12 Principalship, or Superintendency,
you must submit a two (2) to five (5) page typewritten
statement explaining your:

of the purpose and role of education.
- qualifications,
and
- aptitude
for leadership. Apply leadership to your particular
area of program focus, such as K-12 building
leadership (teacher leadership or principal), K-12 district

Completing the Application Process
Phase
1. INSTITUTIONAL (WSU)
Admission to Graduate Study
You
must meet all institutional entry requirements before the
Department of Educational Leadership can consider your
application for admittance to a specific degree program.
- Complete
all appropriate degree level application forms and
pay fee where applicable (download
all application forms here).
- Send
to WSU all official transcripts containing undergraduate
and graduate level course work from other colleges and
universities.
- Submit
GRE examination scores if GPA falls below minimums.
- Write
a statement as described in admission standards
above.
Phase
2. DEPARTMENT Admission
to Master's or Specialist degree
- Admission
to a specific degree program in the department can only
be considered after all materials have been received
by the Office of Graduate Studies (see Phase 1 above).
This department admission step is skipped for students
applying only as a Graduate Special Student (non-degree
seeking).

- The
graduate office forwards your completed application
file to the department.
- Department
faculty review your transcripts, written statement,
and GRE scores (where applicable).
- Department
faculty vote on admission. A unanimous vote is required
for admission.
- If
your application is approved, you will receive a
letter containing the name of your advisor and a
statement that you must now complete an Application
for Admission to Candidacy Form (Program Plan Form).
