HOW
TO
Track Your Progress Toward Degree
Completion
- First,
you must be fully admitted into a degree program. If you have received a
letter from the Department of Educational Leadership stating that you have
been admitted into the M.S. or Ed.S. degree program with the name of an
advisor, then you are a degree seeking student. (For clarification of the
admission process, see the Admission section of this web site.)
- Second,
you should have received a letter stating that "before you complete further
course work, please meet with your advisor and complete an Application for
Admission to Candidacy form." It is the contract between you and WSU
that clearly outlines your program of study. You must complete the form
before completing 16 semester credits. The top of the candidacy form looks
like the picture below for both the Master's and Specialist degree.

In collaboration with your advisor, complete the form by listing all the
courses you will take for the degree. All signatures (student, advisor,
the department chairperson, and the Director of Graduate Studies) will indicate
that your program of study has been accepted.
- Third,
as stated at the top of the form, you are to make three copies for the Graduate
Office and one for your own files.
- Fourth,
as you take courses, all you have to do is check-off on the candidacy form
those courses you have taken. When all courses are checked and your capstone
research paper has been accepted, you are done. (Note: Master's degree students
must complete a comprehensive exam during the term in which they wish to
graduate.)
