Cultural Outreach Activities

American cultural activities are an important part of the curriculum in an effort to maximize the English learning experiences. These are examples of activities planned for each semester.

A day on a WSU boat on the Mississippi

Mississippi River is the second longest river in the United States. An American style cookout

In summer, backyard cookout is one of the most favorite activities for all Americans. It is the chance
for families and friends to relax, share stories, and reminisce about old times. There is nothing more American than a traditional American cookout.

A day at Mall of America

Mall of America is the largest shopping mall in America. There are over 520 stores and 50 restaurants. It also has an amusement park with 30 rides and attractions. The mall is located near Minneapolis and St. Paul at the heart of the Midwest, about two and half hours from Winona.

Visiting Chicago or other major cities

Chicago is the third largest city in the United States and the largest in the Midwest. Chicago is rich in history and renowned for its architecture. It is the cultural center of the Midwest with museums, theatres, concert halls, and art galleries. Its Michigan Avenue known as “the magnificent mile” has the best of the shops and fashion.

Hiking and canoeing in Lanesboro

Lanesboro is a historical town with stunning beauty of the Root River. One of the major attractions of Lanesboro is the spectacular paved Root River State Bike Trail, winding 60 miles through the valley with Lanesboro at its heart. The trail is excellent for biking, hiking, cross-country skiing and in-line skating, it runs along an abandoned railroad bed through high bluffs, forest lands and rolling fields. Touring an Amish community

Amish keeps a simple way of life using horses for farming and transportation, dressed in a traditional manner, and forbid electricity, telephones, or TV in the home. They are the best furniture makers and bakers, and the Amish quilts are famous for its fine patterns and stitches.
