Dr. Bruno Borsari (Biology) is collaborating with colleagues from 16 other universities across the U.S. to find out. He and his colleagues are presenting general biology topics using shared case studies. Students equipped with "clickers" take on roles to participate in the case presentation. Depending on the case being presented, students find themselves engaged in the role of patient, doctor, city council member, or even the angry neighbor as they are faced with scenarios that require their understanding of biology topics to support their position and perspective. These “clicker cases” are presented in a uniform format across all classrooms in the study. Students participate in pre-assessments and post-assessments to evaluate their understanding of the content. Surveys are administered to understand student learning preferences. Do students prefer traditional lectures or “clicker cases?” Will there be a difference in student learning? Dr. Borsari and his colleagues will publish their results at the conclusion of their research.
