Currently at
WSU, English 111, College English: Reading and Writing (4 credits), is the only
course in written composition required of all students. Every WSU student is
required to complete at least six semester credits of writing-intensive
coursework (University Studies “Flag” courses) beyond English 111, though
many majors—English among them—require even further writing coursework in
their own departments.
A small set
of students places into English 099, a developmental course in composition
prerequisite to 111; another group places into honors sections of 111. English
majors take 111, then English 290, Literary Studies; some other majors (e.g.,
Paralegal, History, Psychology, Communication Studies, etc.) require English
210, Advanced Expository Writing; others may choose English 211, Writing in
Communities.
