Awards and Scholarships:
English majors and minors are eligible for a number of awards and scholarships. Generally in February, students will receive notices about the available scholarships and application process. Scholarships and awards are announced and presented at the English Department meeting in April.
Awards:
The following awards are announced at the end of Spring Semester (usually in April):
- Distinguished Student Award: Members of the department select the graduating senior(s) who has displayed the highest and most distinguished achievement as an English major.
- James and Ann Nichols Award—Best Scholarly Paper: Each spring, a department committee selects the best scholarly paper written by a student in an English course.
- Distinguished Graduate Portfolio: Each semester, department members review portfolios submitted as part of English 490 and select the most outstanding one(s) for this award.
- Sandra Adickes Award—Best Freshman Essay: This award goes to the student who submits the most outstanding essay as part of the English 111 course.

Satori Editors Award: The editor(s) of Satori is recognized for the publication of the literary magazine.
- Grub Street President Award: This award goes to the student who has provided leadership for Grub Street, the student organization.

During the Spring Semester (generally in February), the department circulates information about the following scholarships, for which English students are eligible to apply:
