WSU Faculty Association

The WSU Faculty Association collectively represents Winona State’s faculty members. The Executive Officers and Faculty Senators are elected by our local membership, representing your values concerns. 

The Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) is the union and collective bargaining representative serving and promoting the faculty of the 7 Minnesota State Universities. The WSU Faculty Association is connected to IFO. 

The IFO President and Board of Directors are elected statewide by faculty members.

Goals of IFO include promoting the welfare of faculty throughout all Minnesota State Universities and improving public higher education through activities such as faculty participation in the governance of the Minnesota State system and its universities. 

Constitutions & Elections

The WSU FA Constitution (PDF) outlines the purpose, policies and procedures of the Faculty Association at Winona State. 

Article VI outlines the election process for leadership positions. 

Meetings
Faculty Senate meetings are held on alternate Mondays.

Meet and Confer Meetings begin on the Monday of the first day of classes each semester. These are attended by: 

  • FA Officers
  • Senate representatives
  • WSU Administration

Academic Affairs & Curriculum Committee (A2C2) meetings are on Wednesdays at 3:30pm but may be subject to change. 

Faculty members discuss issues during a meeting.

All meetings are held in Maxwell 158. Zoom links are included within meeting agenda emails from the faculty president.

Faculty Association Curriculum Committee

The Academic Affairs and Curriculum Committee (A2C2) has representatives appointed from each department. 

A2C2 reviews and makes recommendations to the WSU Faculty Association on the degree requirements, new and revised courses and programs, and academic affairs and their administration.

Events
The WSU FA Social Committee hosts a variety of events during the semester to promote networking, socializing, and learning.
Faculty have a conversation at an event on the WSU campus.
Socials

Socials are held at venues around Winona and Rochester. These events are held for faculty to get to know one another and have a good time.

All current and retired faculty and spouses/significant others are invited to attend for drinks, pizza, and snacks.

Lunch Topics

Lunch Topics are held on campus and cover a wide range of topics.

They are particularly aimed at new(er) faculty, as they offer an opportunity to socialize, network, gain information and meet seasoned faculty members.

The Social Committee, Faculty Senate and the Faculty Development Committee collaborate on topics chosen.

Coffee Talk

Coffee Talk is another informal venue for discussing issues of concern and current events.

They are held both on and off campus, commonly in local Winona cafés.

Honors Dinner

Invitations go out for the annual Honors Dinner in April. This event is sponsored by the WSU Faculty Association to cap off the end of the academic year and recognize faculty retirees.

The banquet begins with a social hour and cash bar, followed by a formal dinner and program, complete with a Master of Ceremonies and speeches behalf of the honorees.
