Bob Brewer '76, Trustee
Bob Brewer earned a B.S. degree in education from Winona State in 1976. In 1992, he was presented the Distinguished Young Alumni Award from Winona State University, and in 2002, he received WSU’s “President’s Award.” He was a four-year starter and captain of the football team from 1972-1976 and was awarded all District, All Conference and Honorable Mention All American honors in football in 1976. In 2004 he became the first offensive lineman in Winona State history to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Bob was an assistant coach of the offensive line for Winona State in 1977 and went on to teach and coach varsity football, basketball and baseball at Springboro High School, Springboro, Ohio. He has served on the Board of Directors of several companies as well as the Scottsdale Boys and Girls Club where he was chairman of the program committee and branch manager of the business mentor program. Bob was runner-up for “Entrepreneur of the Year” in the state of Wisconsin in 1987.
Bob specializes in building companies at many different stages of their development including start-ups, acquisitions, and turnaround ventures. His prior businesses include CEO/President and Chairman of the Board for Storage Revolution, Inc. aka Moveable Cubicle (a company he recently sold). Bob co-founded and successfully raised equity and grew the company to a three-state, four-depot container leasing company in just two years, with more than 1,800 containers on lease and revenues of over $2 million. Bob was also responsible for the success of the number one Drug Emporium franchise in the U.S. As CEO/President, Bob opened five locations in five years with revenues in excess of $35 million. He sold his franchise back to the parent company in 1989 with his investors receiving a six times return on their original investment and then assisted Drug Emporium Inc. with their underwriting with Bear Stearns and a 1989 IPO.
After serving as Executive Vice President of Operations for Drug Emporium from 1989 – 1991, Bob acquired the Arizona franchise and served as CEO/President of Drug Emporium of Arizona, Inc. and grew it to a 350 employee, $75 million business. He grew the market to 14 locations in Arizona and Southern California. After a successful turnaround Bob sold the company to a private investment group in 1995.
Bob currently owns the Anytime Fitness franchise in Boone, NC and is consulting with Centrum Force, LLC as the Managing Member of Eagle Ridge Advisors LLC, a consulting company assisting small and mid-cap companies on business, sales and financial strategies. He has also held sales management positions with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals in East Hanover, NJ and Lawyer’s Co-operative Publishing Company in Rochester, NY.
Bob and his wife, Deb, make their home in Blowing Rock, NC. Bob and Deb have been married 36 years and have 3 great children, and a beautiful granddaughter.
