Mary Lu Gerke '95, Trustee

 

Mary Lu is the consummate life-time learner; she earned a BS in nursing in 1974, a Master’s in Nursing Administration in 1995, Healthcare Management Certification in 1999, and her PhD in Human and Organization Development in 2005.  She is currently the vice president of nursing services at Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse.

During her career Mary Lu has taken on executive leadership roles in many organizations including the La Crosse District and Wisconsin Nurses Associations, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Wisconsin Organization of Nurse Executives.  She has been honored for her professional and volunteer work with the Girl Scout of Distinction award, the W-One Nurse Leader of the Year, the YWCA – Tribute to Outstanding Woman award, Viterbo Outstanding Alumni Award and the Outstanding Young Woman of the Year.

Mary Lu was appointed by the Governor to the Wisconsin Workforce Shortage Taskforce where she works on the assessment and plan to deal with the healthcare workforce shortage.  She currently serves on the Viterbo Nursing Advisory Board, the National Health Web Group, the Riverland Council Girl Scout Board, and the La Crosse Symphony Board.  In her leisure time Mary Lu enjoys golf, fishing and gardening.
