Mike Ericson '86, Trustee
Mike earned a BS in public administration from Winona State and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Studies from Minnesota State University – Mankato. While at WSU, Mike was active in student senate, serving as president his senior year. He was also a resident assistant in Morey Hall and was a member of the 1984 MIBC Championship Bowling team.
Mike worked for a congressman in Washington D.C. and then worked for a state senator at the State capitol during a legislative session. He has worked in local government for more than 22 years, with 18 as a city administrator in Watertown and Hugo (ranked as the fastest growing city in the Twin Cities by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal over the past decade). Mike currently works in economic development with the City of Maplewood, where he lives with his wife Suzanne who is a special education teacher with Mahtomedi Schools and their three children Rachel, Paige and Westin.
Mike served on the WSU Alumni Society board for ten years before joining the WSU Foundation board four years ago. He served on the Minnesota City/County Management Association (MCMA) board of directors for eight years, serving as president in 2002 and on the Metropolitan Area Management Association, serving as president in 2010.
He is an active volunteer in his community and church. He coaches his children’s softball, baseball, basketball and soccer teams. Mike enjoys family activities, running, fishing, and hunting.
