How do I apply online for scholarships?
To apply online, please visit our Online Scholarship Application.
Are all scholarships online?
There are many scholarships that are not online. You would apply through your department. These would include those applications that require portfolios or auditions. Always check with your department for more scholarship information.
How do I log in an access the WSU Foundation scholarship page?
You do need to have your WSU username and password: please visit one of the following sites if you do not know your username and/or password:
https://reset.winona.edu/lookup will allow you to have your username emailed to you - to your WSU email account
https://reset.winona.edu will allow you to use your username to access the password reset page.
If you encounter a problem with the two steps above, you can contact Technical Support.
When will the application process begin & end?
For current WSU students, the application window will be open after January 1, 2014.
Check the www.winona.edu/scholarship website for information. you can also check with your department for more information.
What criteria are scholarship recipients based on?
All WSU Foundation Scholarspis are unique depending on the donor's wishes, Criteria include:
How will I be notified if I receive a scholarship?
You will be notified with a congratulatory letter sent to your WSU email account, along with an acceptance form for you to complete and return along with a thank you note. The awarding process takes time and will begin on April 2014 and run through summer 2014.
If I receive a scholarship how does the money get paid out?
Your scholarship fund award is made through the WSU Financial Aid Office. The scholarship award will be applied to your account.. You will receive half the award in fall and half in the spring.

Can I receive more than one scholarship?
Yes; it is typically a good idea to apply for as many as you are eligible for.
Do you have scholarships for the average students?
Yes; there are many scenarios available to all students. For instance you may not be academically in great standing, however you may qualify on a Financial Need basis.
Does my scholarship affect my financial aid reward?
In some cases Yes. Often times a scholarship will reduce your student loan amounts. To verify the effect a scholarship can have on your Financial Aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office:

What is the FAFSA form?
The FAFSA form is necessary to gain a perspective on Financial Needs of the student (i.e. Parent's Expected Contribution). For more information regarding the FAFSA:
What if I don't have any financial need?
Not all scholarships are based on financial need; For instance, a student may not have a financial need, however does meet academic requirements of a scholarship.
How many 'Thank You' notes will I write?
You will be required to submit two 'Thank You' notes for each scholarship received:
Do I have to write a new essay for each scholarship?
Most essays are based on writing about your personal and career goals. You can write your essay in any editor and have it ready to tweak for each scholarship, then you can copy and paste into each application.
Are there scholarships for part-time students?
Most scholarships require students to be full-time (at least 12 credit hours). However, there are a few scholarships available for part-time students..
Are foreign students eligible for scholarship awards?
Yes; if the international student will be attending Winona State University then they will be eligible.

Is my information kept confidential?
Yes! Anytime we handle personal or sensitive information, it is strictly confidential.
Why is my parent's address and info required?
Your parents will be invited to a scholarship recognition event in the fall of your academic year. Your parents information is utilized to mail the invitation, and for other WSU publications and information.
Is there any way that a parent can get information?
Yes; but only if you are under the age of 18 or you as the student grant them permission to your information.
