The following information was obtained from many sources. We obtain most addresses from the WSU Alumni Office. Many alums take the time to drop us a line or give us a call. Some drop in for a visit. We scrounge as much information as we can from these contacts. The newsletter is sent by bulk mail which means that it will not be forwarded if you have moved. If you note any address of a classmate that is out of date please let us know. If a classmate tells you that he or she did not receive a newsletter it is because we do not have a correct address. An asterisk after a name in the following lists indicates that we are not certain of that person's current status or location. In these cases we can only report the last address available.

• Gainey, Ronald. In addition to the beautiful fossil fish that Ron gave us two years ago, he also sent us a box of specimens suit able for classroom use. After filling all of our teaching sets we gave specimens to all of our graduates that are teaching earth science in the area. Thanks again, Ron. Ron and his family spent two weeks in Scotland in 1993 looking at the geology and castles. He is hoping to make a return trip soon. • Tuftin, Steve. Classmates and friends will be stunned to hear that Steve and his field partner Brian Hannigan were killed by lightning while doing field work for the U.S. Bureau of Mines in the Deep Creek mountain range in western Utah. This tragedy occurred in September of 1992. Dr. Bayer was in Japan at the time and heard about it from Barb Ramer who saw a small article in the Winona paper. Steve was involved in mineral assessments of old mining areas located within Federal Wilderness Areas. He and his partner were walking back to their camp along a ridge when an electrical storm came up. Apparently their aluminum pack frames acted as lightning rods. Their remains were not located for 10 days. Steve will be remembered as a shy fellow who loved fossils and field geology. He had published several papers and had a job that would be any geologist's dream. His parents are setting up a scholarship in the Department in his honor.

• Klindworth, Darold. Darold wrote to tell us that "I left teaching in late 1999 and am now working as a research and extension scientist for the dairy industry. A bit of a change from Uni days but it does bring all of my life experiences together. I still enjoy my geology and have been to a couple of the volcanoes in New Zealand but have not made it to an eruption."

• Suchomel, Diane. Diane is still a supervisory exploration geologist with ARCO in Alaska. She still goes outo to wells on the north slope. She worrys as ARCO continues to cut staff how long she will be with that company. Seems that as hard-working geologists enter their 40's and approach 50 their time grow short with their respective companies. A geologist over 50 in an oil company is a rare sight. She and Marilyn Bayer took a week's vacation in April of 1993 to tour the Charleston, S.C. area of the "Old South".

Kim's Christmas newsletter tells us thgat she took a vacation to New Zeeland to start 1993 and than flew to Yemen to evaluate prospects on the behalf of the Oman government She reports her business "Petroval" is stable and that she is still working 70 hour weeks. • Nelson, Nancy Hovland. We received a letter from Nancy in the summer of 1993. She and her husband are geophysicists with Mobil and were transferred to Norway five years ago. • Johnson, Keith. I have remained working in the oil and gas business since I graduated in 1978 (knock on wood). I am Manager of Geophysics for Dominion Midwest Energy in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dominion Midwest Energy is a regional sub of Dominion Resources, a 20 billion dollar utility based in Richmond, Va.. We just acquired CNG which is a big gas company with a big exploration program in the gulf coast. My address is 821 E. Maple St. in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. I have lived in Michigan since 1981, except for 7 months in Australia and 3 years in Canada. I teach Intro to Geophysics at Central Michigan University in the Fall semester. • Pardus, Barry. Barry emailed us in July 2004 to say he is currently the Director of Clinical Services for the Colorado Department of Corrections in Colorado Springs, CO. He oversees 22 facility clinics, mental health, rehabilitation services, and dentistry in this position. Hopefully, he still has time to enjoy the beauty of Colorado geology!

• Elvebak, Mitchell. Mitch is currently working for Minnetonka West Middle School where he is teaching 8th grade Earth Science and finishing his Masters in Earth Science Teaching this August (2002). He's married to Melonie (Gaskins) Elvebak (WSU Geology '94). The Elvebaks live in Waconia, MN, and have a beautiful daughter Lyndy (2 years old).
• Janssen, Joel. Joel changed jobs and now works for SpecPro, Inc. at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant in Baraboo, WI. He writes: "I manage the ground water monitoring program and perform hazardous waste investigations and remediations. I got back to campus during Homecoming 2005 to meet with the current geology students and see all the new toys that students get to use today. The program has done well recently and the facilities are amazing. Keep up the good work."

She switched to IT about 6 years ago, after working as a Hygrogeologist for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
• Peterson, Rebecca. Becky had offers for graduate study from several universities. She accepted a lucrative assistantship from the University of Iowa where she will pursue a Ph.D in paleontology.
• Reynolds, Jeremy. Jeremy is working as a hydrogeologist in La Crosse, WI at METCO. He and his wife, Terrianne, bought their first home last summer, which they share with their 11 yr. old pooch. Jeremy still comes to Winona occasionally to pick morels. Jeremy was instrumental in helping class of 2002 grad Jed Rockweiler land a job with METCO this summer.
