Jessica Giesen
Earth Science Teaching Major
Graduate in Spring of 2011

Working on this project from January 2009 to December 2009

I am studying sands from around the world by organizing and classifying WSU’s ever-growing collection. Once I figure out technical information (such as grain-size and shape) about each sample I will assemble a collection of sands that can be used along with a lesson plan that I will develop focusing on the 8th grade. This collection will be able to be checked out to local schools and will also be used in the introductory Geoscience courses. A case of the sands will also be displayed in the Geoscience department. Once I finish this project I will be presenting my findings to the WSU community.

Upon graduation, I plan on applying to middle schools around the state and hopefully start teaching 8th grade Earth Science in the fall of 2011.
