Sea Floor Topography Activity - Feedback

The two profiles given in the feedback suggest a solution to the task of sketching cross sections across the south Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean basins. The biggest problem with student work is the omission of trenches from the Pacific profile. This may have been caused by the inconclusive evidence given in the maps that formed the basis for the profiles. I would encourage everyone to study the 1977 Heezen and Tharp map of the world oceans in the text on pages 60 and 61 and the foldout map at the back of the text. There you will see more clearly the features of the sea floor that lie along each of these profile lines.
